A Bequest to Further Good Work
Nancy and David were dedicated volunteers. Over the years, they had seen many individuals helped by the good work of their favorite Free Methodist ministry. They wanted to create a legacy to provide future resources to continue its mission.
Dave: The work of our favorite Free Methodist ministry was important to us and we provided support with current gifts, but wanted to do more. We received the estate and gift planning newsletter and noted that we could make a gift from our estate.
Nancy: We met with our lawyer to revise our wills and we each included a provision for a bequest. Our lawyer put language in the will that allows a percentage of our estate to go to our favorite Free Methodist ministry. This was easy to arrange and permits us to still use our assets during our lives if we need them.
We will continue to make gifts during our lives, but it feels good to know that our support will help in the future.
You also may want to make it easy and convenient to have a bequest included in your will. The language below shows how a bequest can very easily be included in your will.

Example bequest language - Please feel free to change the numbers or percentages as you desire.
1. Bequest of cash
"I bequeath the sum of $10,000 to FM Financial of Spring Arbor, MI, for the benefit of (insert the name of your ministry of choice)."
2. Bequest of a percent of the estate
"I devise and bequeath 20% of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to FM Financial, Spring Arbor, MI, for the benefit of (insert the name of your ministry of choice)."
3. Contingent Bequest
"If my brother John Doe survives me, I devise and bequeath 20% of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to John Doe. If John Doe does not survive me, then I devise and bequeath 20% of my residuary estate, whether real or personal property and wherever located to FM Financial, Spring Arbor, MI, for the benefit of (insert the name of your ministry of choice)."
